Well, we arrived in Thredbo at about 9pm last night to some very nice accommodation (good work Tim!)
The air was decidedly chilly up here at 1350 metres although the weather has been great today and it has warmed up somewhat. Should make for good racing conditions during the day so long as there’s not too much wind. Overnight teams will have to make sure they have plenty of warm gear though as it gets down to near freezing up on the hills. Theres still some snow around above about 1800m.
Not too many other teams around so far although most must be arriving this afternoon. Registration and gear checks kick off tomorrow morning so we should be able to track down all the other kiwis over here.
Threadbo is a great place to hang out. Plenty of running and biking trails. The highest point in Australia (Mt Kosciuszko) in only about a 2 hour return walk from the top of the chairlift so will have to get up there at some stage. Checked out the action at a Downhill Mtb race on today, saw some body armour put to good use... Downhiller vs tree – felt a bit sorry for the tree.
Just got a weather update. Looks like deteriorating weather from Wednesday onwards. Not so pleasant perhaps but should suit the kiwis.
Will attempt to get some team photos of the kiwi teams up tomorrow.
